I have just returned from a week in Malaysia. Between working and doing a spot of shopping I really didn’t take many photographs which for me is quite unheard of.

I guess I just enjoyed avoiding the pressure of my desk and I had just suffered at the hands of a storm that hammered The Gap in Brisbane. Yes it was nice not to smell water damaged carpets, not to trip on protruding nails in my floor and not to have to read the 250 emails a day I get.

My focus on my health has also slipped over the last couple weeks becuase of the storm and the Malaysia trip. While I didn’t do too badly, I need to get back on top of things.

Done!

I like Linux, but I know Red Hat, Fedora and Ubuntu a little better than Debian - bit I am keen to get myself an eee. I have been thinking about a 901 or perhaps a 1000H and wiping XP off it.

Anyway a mate has a 701 up for sale as he just got himself a 901. I am taking his old 701 for a test drive.

Ok, first step? Get it onto my WPA Personal, TKIP secured network with a hidden SSID. Done!

Next? Get my 3 Huawei E220 modem working. This proved to be a little tougher until I found this: http://wiki.debian.org/Huawei/E220?highlight=(huawei)

Now? Chatting to friends with Pidgin.

I will write more…

I have been interacting with some organisations here in Queensland that feel that feel that web accessibility does not apply to them.

Can I point out that:

Under section 67(1)(k) of the Disability Discrimination Act, the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (Hreoc) issues guidelines for the purpose of avoiding discrimination in this area.

- Computerworld

The W3C WCAG checkpoints are the measure of compliance.

Sure for private organisations there is “unjustifiable hardship” but for government sites this does not apply.

I wrote a position piece on this topic back in 2003 or 2004 maybe. I will dig it up and post it up here - I wonder if my comments in that paper still stand today?
